When my friend Laurie decided it was time to redo her oldest daughter Abby's room, she asked me for some ideas and advice. I went to the house and assessed the space and furniture. The room was small, and the furniture was large and stained a dark finish but it had potential. The walls were painted a soft yellow with bugs stamped here and there. The yellow could stay as this helped the small room appear larger. But it was time to change out the bugs to something girlier.

The yellow walls made me think of my Bunnarina collection and when I showed Laurie and Abby the artwork for this collection they loved it and we had our inspiration. We cleared the room and got to work. Laurie and I both agreed the yellow walls lacked depth and texture so we decided to add a deeper shade of yellow paint cut with glaze for a soft color wash effect. We then turned our attention to the bugs. I suggested we paint the cabbage rose from the Bunnarina collection over them, Laurie suggested one even better “lets print copies of the roses”. Laurie's father owns a specialty print shop so this was easy. It saved us time and paint.

With wallpaper copies in hand we pasted the room pretty.

The furniture was next, with a light sanding, two coats of a good primer, and paint we had brand new furniture. We chose a soft white for the furniture so in the future when Abby is ready for another change the furniture will easily work into a new theme.

We made the drawer pulls out of craft store beads and ribbon, which is secured on the inside of the drawer with a wing nut. This is a fun way to add personal touches to the room for pennies that can easily be changed in the future.

Laurie couldn't wait to put the furniture back in the room and see it against the new walls. But, I suggested we try a couple of room layouts on paper firsts.

Once we agreed on a furniture plan we realized we had some extra space in a corner of the room. We brainstormed for a while and decided to create a curtained closet in this corner with shelves and hanging rods. This left us the existing closet for more creative endeavourers.

We took our cue from my painting of the Bunnarina stage. The existing closet became a stage for the budding Bunnarina and her little sister to dance the day away and dream.

The room was starting to take shape we just needed to add the finishing touches: custom bedding, whimsical window treatments, embellished lighting and personalized art for the walls and floor.

The once small room that lacked direction and femininity is now a Bunnarina boudoir that over flows with girlie grace.
